Pictured here is a gas insert. It is direct-vent and built to
the same heating specifications as a direct-vent gas fireplace, but is designed to be "inserted"
into an existing, wood-burning, brick & mortar fireplace. A gas
insert is a great way to replace the mess and inefficiency of
burning wood in an open fireplace - fantastic in large, open
areas or rooms in need of heat!
Some of the differences
between the gas insert and a set of gas logs are:
- Far more heat!
Inserts are designed primarily to give off a tremendous amount
of heat.
- Ease of use!
Inserts are easily regulated with its own wall thermostat or can
be turned on and off with a simple wall switch.
- Airtight seal!
There is no loss of room heat at any time and inserts also use
no room air for combustion.
In addition, the
chimney gets lined by the insert - effectively taking care of any
defects in the clay flue liner!
