Ged Kennett is the epitome of English craftsmanship. For nearly two decades, he has lived and worked on the grounds of Nettlecombe Court, an ancient country estate in Southwest England. Originally commissioned as a metal and iron worker recreating pieces for various castles and manors, Ged has taken traditional blacksmithing and metalworking techniques and honed them to create high quality, beautifully designed cabinet fittings. For the first time, these hand-made pieces are available for sale in the United States through Fine Home Details.
Ged Kennett creates his unique pieces from Brass or Stainless Steel. Ged uses a traditional patinating process to create a number of distinct brass finishes : Natural Brass, Antique Brass, Bronze, Waxed Satin and Polished Unlacquered. These are all "living finishes" which continue to patinate and age with time. With Stainless Steel, Ged is able to accomplish three finishes: Gloss, Semi-Gloss and Matte. For the Gloss finish, Ged uses a seven-stage polishing system which culminates in a super high gloss polish applied with the softest Swans' Down mops.
In addition to his color and finish choices, Ged applies proprietary techniques to accomplish a number of texture options, including: Plain Polished, Ripple Polished, Wave, Sculpted, Topographic, Cross Payne, Pitted & Hammered, Block & Bar, Collar & Bar, Forged, Fly Press, Fine Hammered, Flamed, and Jungle.
